When Archer Western needed a huge diesel hammer to drive 60″ caissons for the new South Capitol Bridge in Washington, D.C., they knew exactly who to call.

GeoQuip supplied a new GeoQuip-GPE D180-32 Diesel Hammer, along with a A104-66 offshore lead, a 66″ step-style male helmet, and custom-built 74hp power unit to trip the hammer- all in less than 2 weeks from receipt of the order.

With a hammer and drive cap of this size, there are some logistical hurdles to overcome. The D180’s piston must ship on its’ own truck as it is weighs close to 40,000 lbs.

We wish the project team the best as they get started on the new bridge.
